NRCC has received a thoughtful reply from Elaine Mead, Chief Executive, NHS Highland, to our letter re lack of local residential respite care for the elderly in Nairn. She agreed that at present no dedicated residential respite is available. None of the independent care homes in Nairn expressed more than a minimal interest in this in the last few years. However, she said there is Home-based Respite Care available accessed via the Care Manager of Carr Gomm who is the provider. From information currently available there are a low number of bookings from service users in Nairn which may be due to a number of reasons including the location of respite beds. Ms. Mead asked for any useful information to help understand local demand and to help consider suitable solutions. She is currently rolling out a user survey for residential respite beds which she hopes will help an understanding of local demand.
